To commemorate the anniversary of the first free parliamentary elections in Poland in June 1989, and in a wider context, the key democratic changes which took place in Poland 25 years ago, Fundacja Kino Polska and Cyfrowe Repozytorium Filmowe have come together to bring forth the Ways to Freedom project, an educational initiative seeking to propagate the development and understanding of culture through cinematographic art, and particularly through film screenings.

The title of the project “Ways to Freedom” is an allusion to Wojciech Marzcewski’s movie “Ucieczka z kina Wolność” (Escape from the ‘Liberty’ Cinema) (1990).
The project is intended to highlight the historical context within which the June 4th, 1989 elections took place in Poland. The aim of the project is also the promotion of Polish democratic traditions and civic behavior, as well as encouraging reflections and debate on the role of art in shaping history.
The project includes both feature and documentary films by such directors as Andrzej Wajda, Maciej Drygas, Janusz Morgenstern, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Ryszard Bugajski, and PawełKędzierski, among others.
