The Piotr Wojtasik Quintet at the 5th Delhi International Jazz Festival

The Polish Institute is pleased to collaborate with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in bringing the Piotr Wojtasik Quintet to perform in India for the very first time.
The 5th Delhi International Festival is an annual event which has become a highlight in the cultural calendar of Delhiites. This year, the Piotr Wojtasik Quintet will have the honor of performing on the opening night of the Festival in Delhi. The band will then travel to Chandigarh the following day for another performance in a city designed in part by Polish architect Maciej Nowicki.
Piotr Wojtasik is one of the foremost jazz trumpeters in Poland with decades of experience in the international jazz scene and is the lead member of the Piotr Wojtasik band.
He is particularly well-known for his collaborations with musicians of the likes of Billy Hart, bassist Reggie Workman and saxophonists Gary Bartz, Vincent Herring and Billy Harper.
His most-recent album ‘Amazing Twelve’ was voted in the Top 10 Polish Jazz Albums of 2014.
His repertoire is extensive, and in Delhi he will play with a new formation and bring to India sounds from their upcoming album. The other members of the band are all accomplished in their own right and include Maciej Sikała on the saxophone, bassist Sławek Kurkiewicz, Michał Szkil on the piano, and drummer Erik Alan.
Other acts performing at the Festival include the Remi Panossian Trio from France, the Enrico Zanisi Trio from Italy, Esteban Copete y su Kinteto Pacifico from Columbia, the Ariadna Castellanos trio from Spain, Kamal Sabri and Group from India, the Rimon Jazz Institute Trio from Israel, and Norbet Kael’s Trio from Hungary.
