The Polish Institute is pleased to announce its collaboration with Pune Jazz Club and capital Jazz in bringing to India with the support from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute one of Poland’s best known contemporary jazz bands, High Definition Quartet.
The music High Definition Quartet play is contemporary and yet remains a tribute to traditional Jazz sub-genres, with humorous hints of Swing, Bebop, Hard Bop, Cool Jazz and Free Form. Piotr Orzechowski, otherwise known as the ‘piano hooligan’, and leader of the Quartet, is a pianist and composer born in 1990, and one of the best recognized jazz musicians of the new generation. The most important of his many awards was the 1st prize at the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition (2011), which he won as the first Pole in the history of that legendary festival. High Definition Quartet has also won several international competitions, including the Belgian Jazz Hoeilaart (2011), and most recently recorded the critically acclaimed album Hopasa (EmArcy Records/UMP, 2013). Piotr’s solo record Experiment: Penderecki (Decca Classics / UMP, 2012), containing arrangements and pieces inspired by the works of Krzysztof Penderecki, was equally enthusiastically received. His most recent album, Bach Rewrite, features J.S. Bach’s Harpsichord Concertos recorded with the pianist Marcin Masecki and Capella Cracoviensis. Piotr Orzechowski has collaborated with such eminent musicians as Adrian Utley of Portishead, Randy Brecker, the Skalpel duo, Paweł Mykietyn, Janusz Muniak and Vladislav ‘Adzik’ Sendecki.

The 2014 Jazz Utsav also includes the Diego Amador Trio, the Deborah J. Carter Quartet, the Francesco Cafiso Duo, Helge Lien and Ruth Wilhelmine Meyer, the Arne Jansen Trio, the Steve Davis Quartet, the David Hazeltine Trio, and the Goa Collective.

“High Definition is one of the most incredible bands if not the most incredible group I have ever played with, and since I have been in the music business for almost 50 years, that is a really strong recommendation. I am sure they will go on to become world famous musicians both individually and as a group!”
