24-26 September 2016
Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi-110021

The Polish Institute was delighted to collaborate with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in bringing the super-young and super-talented Lichtański Sound Lab to perform in India for the very first time.

The Lichtański Sound Lab was founded by saxophonist Wojciech Lichtański who is also a composer and arranger. The quartet’s repertoire consists of his original compositions. The band members are alumni and students of the Academy of Music in Katowice and Kraków. Their expressive and vivid pieces and sentimental ballads build a unique atmosphere thanks to the connection of American, Scandinavian and Slavic music. Lichtański pays a lot of attention to the originality of his compositions while integrating simple and direct melodies with modern harmony. He has received much acclaim at audience and jury awards at various prestigious jazz contests in Poland. The Sound Lab have among other things, been awarded the “Jazz Angel” at the 15 Lotos Jazz Festival Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa; as well as the “Focus on Debut” shout out from leading Polish jazz magazines for their album “Live”! The Sound Lab comprises of Wojciech Lichtański on the alto sax, Michał Szkil on the piano, Alan Wykpisz on the double bass, and Szymon Madej on the drums.

The Delhi International Jazz Festival, now in its sixth edition, is an annual event which has become a highlight in Delhi’s cultural calendar. This year, Wojciech Lichtański and co. will have the honor of performing on the opening night of the Festival in Delhi. The band travelled to Port Blair two days later to wrap up what promised to be an exhilarating few days of Polish jazz.
