“Fathers of Independence” in Kolkata

The Polish Honorary Consulate in Kolkata, along with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi organised an event in Kolkata, on 11th September 2018 as part of the special centennial celebrations of Poland’s independence. The Polish Institute New Delhi, on this occasion, presented an exhibition titled “Fathers of Independence”.


H.E. Mr. Adam Burakowski, Ambassador of Poland in New Delhi, lighting the lamp to inaugurate the exhibition. He was accompanied by Mr. Mohan Goenka, the Honorary Consul of Poland in Kolkata.

Presented by H.E. Mr. Adam Burakowski, the exhibition articulated the story of Józef Piłsudski, Roman Dmowski, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Wincenty Witos, Wojciech Korfanty, and Ignacy Daszyński. These men were instrumental to the process of reconstruction of the Polish State, after 123 years of partitions.

These visionaries came from different walks of life, held different political opinions, had diverse social backgrounds, but were able to unite in a common, imperative effort — the Independence of Poland.

At the event, H.E. Mr. Adam Burakowski introduced the various founding fathers of Poland, in an elaborate address and deliberated upon the great contributions made by the said virtuous Poles towards nation-building. The exhibition not only presented the biographies of these great men, but also showcased a map of the shaping of Poland’s borders during 1918–1923.

The exhibition aroused a deep interest, regarding the important events that occurred during the process of restoration of the Polish statehood. It successfully engaged the audience with Poland’s history, thereby enhancing their appreciation of the Polish heritage.
