Celebrating independence centennial: “World reads the first diplomatic cable of reborn Poland”

To mark the centennial of Poland’s regaining independence, representatives from six countries viz. France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and the United States of America, read on 11.11.2018, one of the most important documents of the independent Polish foreign service – a diplomatic cable. The latter was signed by Józef Piłsudski, Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army, and announced to the world the “existence of an independent Polish state, encompassing all the territories of a reunified Poland.”

A statement from the Republic of Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press Office stated:

“On the occasion of the centenary of Poland’s regaining independence, Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited citizens of six countries located on three continents to read the cable which told the world about the creation of the Polish Republic. The cable signed by Józef Piłsudski, was a symbolic document for Poland which had been reborn after 123 years of partitions.”
