Monassé presents the highest altitude film festival in the world, the Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF); chaired by Shyam Benegal. Now in its third edition, the Festival will take place between 27th-29th June 2014.

The endeavor of the Film festival is to draw attention to Ladakh where pristine beauty combines with the grandeur of cinema. Ladakh’s growing popularity as a tourist destination makes it the perfect place to highlight issues on the environment and ecological balance.
This year’s Polish entry, Zakopiańczycy (Zakopanians), comes from renowned director Jerzy Porębski. It brings to focus the unique people of the Alpine Club of Zakopane, who are rooted in the mountains of the southern Polish resort town by their homes, jobs, and passions. The Alpine Club of Zakopane is the smallest of its kind in Poland, but it still boasts some of the country’s most outstanding mountain personalities, many of who scaled the highest peaks in the Himalayas. Several of the expeditions organized by the Club turned into acclaimed international successes, with the climbers from Zakopane forming the backbone of numerous other high mountain ventures. The Club takes its greatest pride in the first ascent of Makalu and the first winter climb of Cho Oyu. Zakopiańczycyis a documentary about the Club’s extraordinary members, many of whom were Tatra rescuers and mountain guides, and who, bound by friendship and camaraderie built immense mountain victories together.
